FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Black Sheep staff compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions concerning the shop. Click the items below to display the answers.

  1. Does Black Sheep have a skate team?

Yes, Black Sheep has a very select team of guys that officially ride for us. One of the key reasons we started the shop was to invest back into the scene and help gain a wider recognition for this area and highlight the skating talent here.

Additionally, there are a lot of guys that rip and are “informally” down for the shop. Basically, we do whatever we can to help out those guys that have a good attitude and support what we are trying to do.

  2. How can I get sponsored by Black Sheep?

Everybody likes to get free stuff, but our advice is not to focus too much on becoming sponsored. Skateboarding is an amazing physical and creative outlet. You will enjoy it the most if you simply concentrate on skating to have fun and be with your friends. Take it from us, if you skate and have a positive attitude then you will progress naturally, and the right people will notice.

  3. What does “Esse Quam Videri” mean?

“Esse Quam Videri” is the Black Sheep motto, which is a latin phrase that means “To Be, Rather Than To Seem.” The General Assembly of 1893 adopted this phrase as the official state motto of North Carolina. It’s originally believed to be from Cicero’s essay “On Friendship” which says, “Virtute enim ipsa non tam multi praediti esse quam videri volunt” which translates to “Few are those who wish to be endowed with virtue rather than to seem so.”

  4. What brands does the shop carry?

Black Sheep specializes in hard to find shoes and apparel and is the exclusive area dealer for many brands including limited edition shoes from Nike SB, Supra, Adidas Skateboarding, Vans, and DC as well as apparel from Diamond Supply, AKomplice, KR3W, Altamont, Jedidiah, Acrylick and accessories from G Shock, Nixon Watches, and Brigada Eyewear. The shop also carries apparel from Matix and assorted smaller labels as well as footwear from Lakai, Emerica, and Fallen. Additionally, Black Sheep features the area’s largest selection of skate hardgoods with over 300 decks in stock from nearly every major brand in the industry.

  5. How does the shop choose which brands to carry?

Black Sheep focuses on brands that are willing to support our mission and work with us as an exclusive dealer for our area. It’s important for us to keep things clean and concentrate on brands with tight distributions that are not blown out all over town or in the malls. We strive to have a unique selection and to essentially be the “anti-mall” store. Our customers are individuals, so that’s really what they are looking for. As a general rule of thumb, if you can get it in a Pac Sun or Journey’s—it doesn’t belong in Black Sheep.

  6. When does Black Sheep get new shipments?

We carry a ton of brands, so we receive something new nearly every week. However, our large shipments of shoes typically arrive at the beginning of each month. Additionally, there are always quick strikes and other special releases that happen throughout the month, so stay tuned to the web site for new arrivals. We can also special order many items, so just let us know if there is something that you are looking for, and we’ll do our best to help you out.

  7. Does Black Sheep sell products online?

At present, we only sell our products here in the shop. However, we might begin to offer some products for sell online in the near future, so stay tuned.

  8. What is your Return Policy?

Black Sheep cannot accept returns or issue refunds. Exchange for store credit may be issued for new, unused merchandise in its original condition if accompanied by receipt and returned within 14 days of purchase. All exchanges are at the discretion of management and final.

  9. What forms of payment do you accept?

We gladly accept cash and most major debit and credit cards, including Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover. We require a valid ID for all credit card transactions. Sorry, we do not accept personal checks.

  10. What are your store hours?
