Skateboarder Magazine’s Raiders of the Archives “with Girl Skateboards Art Director, Andy Jenkins, who’s been in the skate industry for more than 20 years and has created some of skateboarding’s most iconic graphics.”
J. Strickland “Gypsy Treasures” Art Show and Deck Release Party this Saturday, April 16th at 5:00 - 9:00 pm.
Be sure to join us this Saturday night to celebrate the release of the latest Black Sheep Artist Series Deck featuring custom artwork designed by legendary “black sheep” J. Strickland.

J. Strickland will be here showing a collection of his recent artwork. We are stoked to have him back in Charlotte for this special event. Special performance by DJ Poochie La Fever and after party at the Common Market Southend with the Charlotte big screen premiere of the new Real Skateboards Video “Since Day One.”

Whether you know it or not what you consider the “raw” in skate culture probably finds some of its roots in the contributions made by J Strickland. This dark horse of the skate industry, after a stint working with the young Hawk team, was responsible for “Bootleg skateboards” and was the creative force and co-founder of Baker Skateboards. However, the essence of his legacy comes from his involvement in the streets. Strickland had been crushing trains from Mexico to Vermont before 1/2 the art directors that run your favorite companies were even born. He’s has grown and adapted his craft over the years into a body of work that uses color, characters, and influences from his unbelievable and insane life to produce amazing works of art that have been shown all over the world. I honestly only know a hand full of dudes that keep it as real as this man and we are proud to call him our friend.”
-AUF Philadelphia
J. Strickland has been making waves in the skate and art worlds for years– with deep roots in the industry, he started as a TM with Birdhouse where he left with Andrew Reynolds to became one of the original co-founders of Baker Skateboards. Later, he launched his own brand called Bootleg Skateboards.

For more info on J. Strickland, visit Shoot 2 Kill, this ill interview from 48Blocks as well as coverage of another recent art show over on the Skateboard Mag.

Sneak Peak: J Strickland x Black Sheep tee. Official Release Saturday, April 16, 5-9pm.
