Black Sheep x Alien Workshop Official Web Release

Black Sheep is proud to officially announce our collaboration with legendary skate company, Alien Workshop. Now available for purchase in-store and online.

AWS has been a creative force for decades and they have produced some of the most influential and iconic graphics ever to grace a skateboard. As longtime skaters with deep roots in the 80’s/ 90’s east coast, Black Sheep has always had a huge respect for Alien Workshop and all the ground-breaking skating, videos, and timeless art they have produced — so this collaboration is especially meaningful to us.

It is also an honor to have original Alien Workshop co-founder and art director, Mike Hill participate in the creative process and contribute such an iconic AWS graphic reference, re-interpreting it in true Black Sheep fashion. You may recognize the classic “Sheeple” graphic from an original Alien Workshop release from the 90’s and re-released a few years ago for their 20th anniversary, commentating on the herd mentality of the general public.

This graphic concept spoke to us and was a perfect fit aligning with the core beliefs of Black Sheep– to celebrate the individual and independent spirit while forging ahead and rejecting the crowd mentality, embracing individuality instead of the norm. Often taking a risk being a leader instead of a follower, even if labelled an outcast.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Alien Workshop involved in making this project happen. They have continued to push and produce innovative, quality products for over 20 years with the same passion and drive as the day they were founded.

This collaboration is definitely a milestone for Black Sheep and something we will proudly hang on the wall for years to come.

Black Sheep Artist Series: Reid “Switch” Bramhall

We are proud to introduce the latest installment in our Artist Series Collaboration Skate Decks, the Switch x Black Sheep “Robots” Deck.

The art for the Limited Edition “Robots” Black Sheep Deck was created by Reid “Switch” Bramhall. Reid is a long time friend of the shop, and he has contributed to many of our previous group art shows and fund raisers. He is a humble guy that has always supported Black Sheep and local area business, and is active in the local art community.

His signature style of funny and mischievous characters and bold, bright colors is reminiscent of classic graphics of the late 80’s and early 90’s era of skate art. We were especially excited to work with Reid on this project because it is unlike any of our previous collaboration decks.

“My art focuses on the playfulness of happy little characters, creatures and monsters. I paint to bring out the kid in all of us and the funny, playful side we all have within ourselves. Best Damn Shop Contest 2011

We went to Raleigh a few weeks back for the 5th Annual Best Damn Shop Contest. Each year the level of skating (and after partying) gets gnarlier and gnarlier. So many amazing shops and skaters in attendance, so definitely an honor just to be in the mix. Some insane skating went down this year for sure with dudes like Gilbert Crockett, Shaun Gregoire, and even some newcomers in the mix.

Marky Clements and Blake Spencer repped Charlotte and the Sheep and held it down with some bangers, but DC- based Palace 5 took the top honors for the second year in a row.

Sunday B-Sides Skate & Costume Contest THIS SUNDAY!

This Sunday, October 23, 2011, VBGB will be hosting the second monthly Sunday B-Sides. Last month was a fun evening full of skateboarding, good music, skate videos, and cold beer. This weekends event will feature live DJ’s, $5 raffles from local businesses, and a B-Boy competition.

In the spirit of Halloween, we will be hosting a Skate & Costume Best Trick Contest on a ledge. The rules are simple, show up in a costume and see who can do the best trick on the ledge. Prizes include a $50 Gift Certificate to Black Sheep and a FREE PAIR of DC Shoes. Come out around 6pm and warm up and the contest will start around 7:30pm. Enjoy some great music, cold beer, and an awesome time. DON’T MISS IT!

Spawns of Gnar @ Shred for Bread 2 Contest

S.O.G. coming through with a sick edit from the Shred for Bread 2 contest last Sunday at Soulride Skatepark. Much love to the Black Sheep rippers Marky Clements and Justin Pittman for representing for the Sheep as well as Drew Adams for the clip. Last but not least, BIG HIGH FIVE to Marky for taking 1st Place and the $400 prize! Congrats homie!
